About Me
Hi, I'm Ashley Miller! Nice to meet you!
Hi there, welcome to my portfolio! I am currently the Clarendon County Reporter for The Sumter Item. I reside in Columbia, SC but I am from Lancaster, SC.
My love for journalism began at a very young age. I remember my great-grandmother getting the newspaper every Wednesday and me running to the door to get it for her. She used to read my the comics out there because I could only understand the pictures. When I learned how to read, I would stop at the newspaper boxes out on main street and grab some and read them on the way home. Did I fully understand what was going on? Not one bit but it didn't stop me from trying.
When it comes to learning, I am right there wanting to learn something new. I hated school but I still went so I could learn and improve my skills in the journalism field. In high school, I was the editor n chief of our school newspaper, The Bruin Pride. I loved working on that newspaper, it was so much fun. We learned how to use InDesign, Photoshop and so many other programs. So when I went into my first year of college, I wanted to do something similar. So I worked for Fusion Magazine at Kent State University for my freshman year. It was a different style of writing and pushed me out of my comfort zone but I grew from this.
